How to identify which annotation a link refers to?

I have links to specific annotations in my notes of the form: [[file.pdf#page=123&annotation=45678R]].

When I open the link in the popup or a tab, it shows me the page with the annotation, but there is no indication which annotation it is on the page and I cannot tell how to identify the specific annotations by their number, other than re-copying them and comparing.

Am I missing something about how to identify the annotaitons? Or is there some way to convert an annotation link into the referenced annotaiton text?

Identified the cause as annotation reference numbers breaking on changes to original pdf and created a bug issue: #495
