Add a build status badge to the README

The README.md could benefit from a build status badge (e.g., from GitHub Actions) to show the current build status.

This would make it easier for contributors to see if the main branch is passing tests.

This appears to already be satisfied on the current README: the top badge block includes a CI badge pointing at .github/workflows/ci.yml.

I do not think this needs a new PR unless maintainers want a different workflow badge or a different badge placement.
