[BUG] Microphones show as Unavailable after upgrade to 1.6.8 (worked on 1.6.7) #838

Description

@ashwaqar

Describe the bug

After upgrading Fluid Voice from 1.6.7 to 1.6.8, all input devices in Audio Devices → Input Device Priority show as Unavailable, including both the built-in MacBook Pro Microphone and an External Microphone. Microphone input worked normally on 1.6.7.

Reproduction steps

  1. Install / upgrade Fluid Voice to 1.6.8 (from a working 1.6.7 install).
  2. Open Fluid Voice settings → Audio Devices.
  3. Look at Input Device Priority.
  4. Optionally click Refresh.
  5. Observe that listed microphones remain Unavailable.

Expected behavior

Input devices (at least the built-in MacBook Pro Microphone, and connected external mics when present) should be available and selectable for dictation, as they were on 1.6.7.

Actual behavior

Both listed input devices show status Unavailable:

  • External Microphone — Unavailable
  • MacBook Pro Microphone — Unavailable

Output device still appears selectable (e.g. External Headphones). Refresh does not resolve the unavailable status. Dictation cannot use the microphone.

App Version

1.6.8

macOS Version

macOS 26.5.2

Architecture

Apple Silicon

Logs or crash report

N/A — UI shows devices as Unavailable; no crash observed.

Screenshots or screen recording

Screenshot of Audio Devices pane (to be attached): Input Device Priority lists External Microphone and MacBook Pro Microphone both as Unavailable; Output Device is set to External Headphones. Helper text: “Fluid Voice tries microphones from top to bottom. Drag to reorder; unavailable devices keep their place.”

Additional context

  • Regression: worked on 1.6.7, broken after install of 1.6.8.
  • Possibly related to prior audio-device tracking discussion in [BUG] Audio Device selection is now inconsistent #805 (closed; that report was on 1.6.7 and described inconsistent selection rather than all inputs unavailable).
