Privacy friendly, cookie less simple web analytics

I think web analytics could be useful for the website, and give us the following benefits:

• Traffic to the book, and which pages get the most visits
• Devices / browsers loading the examples
• Adoption and growth over time

The constraint we have are:

• No cookie, no GDPR banner
• Not tracking users
• Privacy friendly
• Simple to use

This issue is to collect community feedback, opinions and other options

This would be really useful for knowing what learning materials people do/do not engage with, it's hard to know where best to add or refine such materials at the moment.

In addition to what you have listed it could also be used to report errors from web examples along with the device it was on. Right now people kinda just have to hit an issue and we have to hope they say something in the discord or open an issue for it.

I've used plausible in the past and been pretty happy with it. Open source and self-hostable if it was a thing people wanted to do for additional privacy / security. Plus super easy to integrate.
