researching why featured image no longer in RSS output

This used to work, I did not change any code and it no longer outputs my featured image on the post to MailChimp. @jdelia is experiencing the same on one of her sites. We're looking into the solution.

Figured this one out, but not sure why it changed, perhaps related to a WP update?

This function in the functions.php file adds the featured image to the post content as described, but it does not output it in the RSS feed.

I added this code to my site to send the featured image to the RSS feed. This is from a combination of code from a couple of plugins and also a code snippet from @jdelia. Using global $post declaration.

Use get_the_ID() instead of global $post, $post->ID

Dang it, I could swear I tested with that and it didn't work, but it does as far as my new function. Changed it to using get_the_ID() .
