Dance.js lighting FX idea

I have an idea for the Dance.js visual experience...

• we build out an addressable LED array driven by a small board, and program it in javascript
• we could (for example) add beat detection, and decorate our next venue with the LEDs
• I'm leaning toward the BeagleBone Black, because it's powerful enough to run Debian but also has two PRUs, which have DMA access and full control of the pins, so you can drive a really high number of LEDs at a decent frame rate without touching the CPU)
• one of the talks at the next Dance.js could be about how we pulled the project together, which would be a cool blend of javascript / hardware hacking

(Imagine the dance floor, outlined in low profile LED strips, which pulsate to the beat. That's one possible implementation.)
