This looks like it may be packaging/architecture-specific rather than a daemon startup problem. The report is Linux arm64 with Desktop 0.47.0, so the useful next check is whether the installed app actually contains the expected kubo binary under node_modules/kubo for arm64, and whether it has executable permissions after extraction. If the binary is intentionally unavailable for that platform, the UI should probably show a clearer unsupported-platform error before trying to start the daemon.

iiuc what's happening: ipfs-desktop downloads the kubo binary from an npm postinstall script, and when that script doesn't run the binary is missing, so the daemon can't start.

This is getting more common because npm v12 makes install scripts opt-in by default, and --ignore-scripts, pnpm, and hardened CI already skip them today.

The fix makes kubo download the binary on first use instead of leaning on that script, and pulls it from GitHub releases:

• fix: fetch binary on demand from github releases npm-kubo#83 (the package that fetches kubo)
• fix: make the kubo binary reliably available #3180 (ipfs-desktop adopting it)

Once those ship in a release this should be sorted.
