This has been addressed in PR #504. The parseSource() function now supports any git-cloneable URL:

• ssh://git@host/path/repo.git
• git@host:user/repo.git (SCP-style)
• https://any-host.com/path/repo.git

The existing GitHub shorthand (github:user/repo) and local paths continue to work. Once merged, you'll be able to install plugins from any git host.
