Which it is, yes. In the sense that it does not offer what is promised, namely access to allthemodules provided in OCaml's 5.4 stdlib to older versions of the compiler. A new release will come to fill this gap, hopefully closer in time to 5.4 than the last release has been to 5.3.

Just FYI, the release of OCaml 5.4.0 is currently planned for Thursday

I wonder if there is any interim workaround, for example, would it be fine to simply add

AC_WITH_OCAML_VERSION([5_4_0], [5.4.0])

and similarly hack tools/compiler_version.ml? (Only as a temporary measure)
